So this is finals week. Almost time to take the long drive home to Texas. I have three finals down and two to go. I will be doing those on Thursday so tomorrow will be my study study study day. In between my frantic cramming I decided to treat myself to an early Christmas present, a movie that has been rocketed into my top ten. Inglourious Basterds. Now then, don't go judging me too harshly, it is Christmas after all. I actually wrote my final film analysis about this movie. I would post the five page paper that I am very proud of, however the analysis contains plot points that are not for the faint of heart. Quentin Tarantino is hands down one of my favorite directors and this has to be the greatest movie he has made in my opinion. It just barely squeaks past his Kill Bill saga on my list. For anyone who has been previously mistaken, Inglourious Basterds is not a world war 2 movie. It is a spaghetti western that takes place in Nazi occupied France. It is absolutely brilliant. Tarantino even takes the gutsy step to have the last line in the movie be: "I do believe this is my masterpiece..." This is a movie that I would recommend to anyone and everyone. If you are opposed to R rated content, (Language and Violence) check it out edited, it has already been booked to play on the TNT network in a year or two. This is just a movie that needs to be seen.
5 Stars!

Movies Movies Movies
So today was my last Intro to Film lecture, and I can't help but be a little sadend about that. It has been by far my favorite class I've ever taken probably ever in my schooling career. This was the class that helped me realize that if I want to go into movies that I can. But here at the end of it all I know more than ever that this is what I want to do. I am probably most content when watching movies. That might sound depressing but it's not. I love hanging out with my friends and doing active things. I love playing soccer and other sports. But I really gain enjoyment out of watching movies. I've always been able to see the beauty in films. This semester I've been able to learn about film as what it really is, an art form. It's not about escapism, it's not about money, it's about expression. Every movie is trying to say something and I want to hear what they are saying to me. I want to convey messages to the public. I can make a difference with movies. They take opinions or values and present them in a way that people accept. They become things for people to take and look at and fill with their own interpretations. Once a movie is made it becomes property of the public to fill with what ever theme they see in it. I hope I never lose sight of this fact. Movies are art in it's purist form. The pure and uncensored human expressionism. It is truly beautiful. Movies cannot just be dismissed as stupid, or lame. There is something there and even if you don't see it, the person sitting behind you might have seen it. I can make a difference in this medium. It's not about money it's about sending a message. Star Wars, good conquers over all, no matter how far you fall you can always come back to the light. Lord of the Ring, the hero's journey isn't always a happy one. The Dark Knight, even the best can fall. Watchmen, a lie can be more important than the truth. 300, freedom comes with a cost. Inglourious Basterds, a western doesn't have to take place in Texas with cowboys, and historical accuracy does not matter when you want to tell a beautiful story about self sacrifice. Fight Club, the power of ideas and conformity is unimaginable and as a result those in power must be careful. Kill Bill 1 & 2, the destruction of a villain is not always satisfying, sometimes a good person makes a mistake. Pan's Labyrinth, happily ever after might not be happy for everyone.
This is what I see when I watch movies, I hope I never stop seeing it. It's because of movies that have made a difference in my life that I know that some day I can make a difference in some kid. If one person sees a movie for what it is, than everything was worth the effort.
Here's to you Hollywood....
